  4. Update 02/08/12: VoodooShader is back up and so are all of the UC
  5. packs. Grab the latest versions at their respective steps.
  6. (http://www.voodooshader.com/sfn/interface.7z), which means several
  7. mods now included in that pack have been removed. I have also re-
  8. upped dead MU links to Mediafire. Expect updates to UC: Nature and
  9. UC: Armory soon; I also plan to release a couple of other things.
  10. Update 11/24/11: MGE section has been significantly changed, this
  11. guide now recommends MGE XE by default due to Hrnchamd finally
  12. adding in 3D water waves to his version of MGE. Expect a shader pack
  13. with some higher quality shader options in the near future.
  14. —Knots Guide to a Beautiful Morrowind—
  15. This has been a long time in coming, but I’ve finally decided to get
  16. off my ass and set this up for the people who have been asking me
  17. about this shit. This is a step-by-step guide on how to get your
  18. copy of Morrowind looking and running the best that it can. Several
  19. such guides already exist and while I have found all of them to be
  20. useful, none of them really stay as “cutting edge” as I would
  21. prefer. This is an evolving guide: I will make changes as better
  22. This is probably the most important step, so you’re going to want to
  23. follow my instructions closely. Any deviation will likely result in
  24. A. Start by installing Morrowind to a directory that is NOT in
  25. Program Files. I use c:/games/Morrowind/. Programs Files is a bad
  26. directory for most older games, particularly on newer versions of
  27. B. Install the official expansions and their patches in this order:
  28. (http://download.zenimax.com/elderscrolls/morrowind/patches/tribunal_v1.4.1313.exe), 3. Bloodmoon, 4. Bloodmoon Patch
  29. (http://download.zenimax.com/elderscrolls/morrowind/patches/Bloodmoon_v1.6.1820.exe)
  30. You don’t need to complete the tutorial, just give Jiub your name
  31. C. Install the Morrowind Code Patch
  32. (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=19510) by Hrnchamd.
  33. Look through all of the options and pick the ones that sound good to
  34. you. Make sure to get the extended map if you plan to play with any
  35. of the new lands. Also important to install is the fixed gloss and
  36. reflection mapping. Here is a screenshot of the box you need to
  37. check (http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/310/mcpl.jpg) highlighted
  38. (http://timeslip.users.sourceforge.net/exeopt.html) on Morrowind.exe
  39. in your install directory [c:/.../morrowind/]. Note that if the
  40. Optimizer does not run correctly on your computer, you may skip this
  41. step, but do not use the “pre-patched” .exe offered by Timeslip’s
  42. site as it will ruin the Code Patch you applied just a moment ago.
  43. E. Use the 4gb Patch (http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php) on

  81. scroll down to the “black on tan/white” version of the guide and

  115. Darknut has done a really fantastic job, nothing seems out of place,
  116. it just takes the lore itself and builds it up, makes it more grand.
  117. Note: Darknut’s Greater Dwemer Ruins is by no means required, and if

  266. I. Download and install Vurt’s Groundcover
  267. (http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8378), Tamriel Rebuilt Groundcover
  268. (http://tes.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=41626), and the
  269. (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=30788). Do not enable
  270. the plugins in the launcher, always leave them disabled.
  271. J. Open up MGE again if you’ve closed it. Navigate to the “Distant
  272. Land” tab. Click “Distant land generator wizard”. If you have been
  273. enabling all of the plugins as you go, you can click “use
  274. morrowind.ini”. Otherwise, go through and click all of the boxes.
  275. Make sure to also check the Vurt Groundcover plugins in this list as
  276. well as the Azura’s Coast/Sheogorad grass mod’s plugin.
  277. K. Click continue and follow along with the creation wizard. Do not
  278. overdo yourself, keep your hardware in mind when you make selections
  279. because if you overkill it, you’re just going to have to re-generate
  280. L. Finally, place a check mark in the box labeled “use distant
  281. land”, then set your draw distance. Higher numbers mean less FPS.
  282. Try a value of 12 to start with. If your computer is a beast, keep
  283. in mind that values above 25 will not offer you much more viewable
  284. Start the game and make sure that it runs.

  286. I’ve said it a few times already, but I can’t stress it enough. MGE
  287. is a complex tool working in a complex environment. It hijacks
  288. d3d9.dll to make its effects possible, similar to how ENB series
  289. does for other games. That means that all of its effects can’t be
  290. implemented directly into the game’s engine: MGE’s implementation of
  291. Distant Land and shaders is rather hackish, it is not optimized so
  292. even if you can run Crysis on super settings at retarded
  293. resolutions, Morrowind won’t run as smooth. It’s easy to get carried
  294. I have written a post on our forums
  295. (http://somethingfornobody.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=19&sid=7e31e4db6587de76c32ad62fdcc3936b&start=10#p264) with
  296. some recommended baseline MGE XE settings you can tweak up from if
  297. you are having trouble finding a good quality/performance balance on
  298. If you would like to use a controller with the PC version of
  299. A. Download Xpadder 5.3 from here
  300. (http://fs1.soft82.com/files/10e2b55a57f80051b4657bfeb843c01d-23085/Xpadder5-3.zip). This is a joy2key program, which means it makes your controller output keytrokes and mouseclicks, very handy
  301. for games that do not handle controllers by default.
  302. If you have Windows 7, right click on the .exe, select properties,
  303. go to the compatibility tab, and enable “Run this program in
  304. compatibility mode for Windows Vista (service pack 2)”.
  305. B. Download this (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QRHEW6MJ). It’s a
  306. .rar with everything you need to use a wired 360 pad with Morrowind.
  307. Just unzip the files anywhere and load them into Xpadder. You have
  308. two configurations to choose from: “Morrowind Xbox Original” is a
  309. scheme very similar to how the game was set up on Xbox. “Morrowind
  310. OblivionLike” is more in line with the default controls for the 360
  311. versions of Oblivion and the Fallout games. I personally use the
  312. C. Before you start your game, open your Morrowind.ini found in c:/
  313. …/morrowind/ and change both of the following values:
  314. Joystick Look Up/Down=
  315. to 0. This ensures that the game doesn’t mess things up for you when

Code Patch Morrowind

To install, download it and extract the.zip into your Morrowind folder (or just drag and drop its contents. Remember, you are NOT putting it in Data Files, you are putting it in the main Morrowind folder). Open up Morrowind Code Patch.exe (remember to run as administrator. I will keep reminding you to do that). Installing the Unofficial Morrowind Patch - posted in Morrowind Mod Troubleshooting: Im trying to install the Morrowind Unofficial Patch & Im running into problems. (Im trying to get GotY up and running on Steam.). No need to download any other archive. It's a beta, yes, but the state of unofficial patches for Morrowind is a bit of a mess. Note: Morrowind Code Patch and 4GB Patch do not work with the GameStop/Impulse version of the game, so the Steam version is recommended instead. Installing Morrowind on Windows Vista/7/8 Because Morrowind was developed for Windows XP, there are a couple of issues that arise due to the increased security when installing to the default C: Program.
